To minimize product carry-over/cross contamination, Poeth Solids Processing has been challenged for the fourth time to replace an existing transport system with a Z-Conveyor in a very tight space. In previous cases, several screw conveyors and a disc conveyor have already been successfully replaced.
In addition, the Z-Conveyor is ATEX safe and can safely transport explosion-sensitive powders without additional provisions. The transport speed is 0.5 m/s for coarse dosing and 0.1 m/s for fine dosing, which eliminates the risk of spark formation.
In this project, the mixture from a Nauta mixer is transported via a Z-Conveyor to two big-bag fillers. It is critical that the mixture does not separate during transport and that carry-over is kept to an absolute minimum.
The Z-Conveyor used is equipped with two slide valves, the bottoms of which are completely flush with the bottom of the conveyor. This means that no product remains in the system, while a capacity of 40 m³/hour is still achieved.
In the original setup, a large feed screw fed a second, swiveling dosing screw, which in turn operated two big-bag fillers. This solution was complex and sensitive to cross-contamination and segregation.
